Loomis Study- Babies- Another Different Head

I think the final rendering made it a little bit too lop-sided- at least I was able to understand this head better from the actual rough pencilling. There aren't that many heads to study on this page of baby heads.

Loomis Study- Babies- Drawings Update

There are some of the baby head studies I have been doing during the past few days. They show improvement in drawing heads from multiple angles, although I'm not sure I got the hair right in the bottom drawing.

Loomis Study- Babies- A Head at a Different Angle

This one was hard to work out. This was mainly because of the angle of the head, and my pencilling doesn't quite convince you that it's a head from the top.

Loomis Study- Babies- A Different Head

This one was awkward to study, because of the angle of the head, and what each eye was doing. I might revisit just to make sure I understand what truly is going on.

Loomis Study- Babies- Another Head

I've only had enough energy to draw just the one head today. I'm noticing that the head studies are starting to look consistent from one another, even thou I think I have squashed the head a little from the original drawing in the book.

Loomis Study- Babies- Another Batch of Heads

I was to work out that head I was stuck on yesterday, and was able to get that profile head down well too... maybe a little too well.

Loomis Study- Babies- More Heads

Here are some more studies of those baby heads on that Loomis page. I'm really chuffed at how the one on the top left came out; the other head needs a bit more work on it to understand what is going on.

Loomis Study- Babies

I'm now on a page dedicated to nothing more then heads of babies for me to study. And these attempts are all for one head. I might be doing these for a while.

Loomis Study- Distortions- Part 2

This is just some more experimentation with this distortion method to create faces. I might do a few more of this, before tackling the next part of the book.

Tuesday 15 February 2011

Loomis Study- Distortions

This seems to be pretty self-explanatory. You can distort a face by drawing a grid over it, the distorting the grid. I'm using a simple face to illustrate this purpose.

Loomis Study- Projections- The Last Batch Part 2

I think I have done as much as I can on this face. Although I might want to try a different soft pencil besides HB- I'm not pleased with the sharp outlines I am getting with it.

Projections... of My Own

I decided to give Loomis a break, and drew this from memory. It's similar to the character in the Loomis book, but a little bit more simplified to understand what is going on. I might revisit the actual head in the book another time.

Loomis Study- Projection... Again

So is this better than my last attempt at this task? It's a bit fluid, but I have squashed the cranium of this character too much. So it looks like I'll go back to the drawing board on this stage, until I can get all the details from the original head, before I move on.

Loomis Study- More Solid Forms... Again!

I think I have as much as I can with this heads based on Loomis' solid form technique. I might progress onto the next task, being that projection task- maybe it will be easier now, after doing these solid forms.

Loomis Study- Solid Forms... Again

I have just revisited this head to see if this theory has sunk in. It might take a few times to crack this head using this technique.

Wednesday 2 February 2011

Loomis Study- Further Solid Forms

These heads came out pretty well. I might as well revisited some of the previous heads on that page, just to be on the safe side that all of this is sinking in.

Tuesday 1 February 2011

Loomis Study- More Solid Forms

This is more of the same, only with different shapes to make a head. I might revisit this one too, after I have attempted the rest of the heads on that page.
