Artober 2020- Day 22- Create Your Own Universe Excercise

 This was a random excercise from that Brothers McLeod book, where I had to draw three insects in sports gear. So I drew a dung beetle, a ladybird, and an ant playing Head Ball, where they had to head the ball from one side to another. I love the quick nature I churned this out.

These were a challenge to do. I was also experimenting with different pencils to achieve different ways to learn how to construct these faces from this book.

I have spent some time on holiday during the past week. Which means that I have a backload of several drawings to get through- and probably some photographs when I get around to sorting them out too.
So here are some studies on several more heads on a page from that Loomis book.

Loomis Study- A Lot of the 'Twenty Kids' Study

Some of these were successful, and some of them weren't.

Life Drawings, and the First Batch of 'Twenty Kids' Studies

My life drawings seem to be all over the place, with no major definition of the objects being drawn. On the other hand, I am able to fully understood how to construct several of these heads in this Twenty Kids exercise in Loomis' book.

Final Batch of "The Women Folk" Studies, and Life Drawings

I'm quite please with how the heads came out, showing an understanding of how the heads were constructed, as well as how they were drawn.
The life drawings were also successful, as they got me to loosen up when I was trying to draw this array of objects. Although, I prefer the bottom image, in terms of its composition, but the other drawing shows more effort towards overlapping, and spacial awareness of the objects.

These are okay, but I need to be careful of the proportion of the head, in relation to the hair.

Now I'm onto a page featuring some stock women characters. So I'll be doing a lot more heads from this book- joy.

I have now finished that page. The 'method of checking' was helpful in working out the proportions for the eyes, nose, and mouth area, but that was all I found helpful from that method.

I was quite chuffed with how the head came out on the right, even thou I clipped off a bit of her hair because of the page layout.

I messed up the head on the right, but I was able to understand the construction of the heads rather then apply Loomis' approach.

I'm sort of learning the approach done on the heads, but not necessarily the method that I'm supposed to be learning from this page.

I'm still can't master the main head on that page, but at I was able to render off an adequate study of one of the other heads on the page.

Based from the previous studies, Loomis gives a method for checking your proportions with a female head- and it looks like I'm going to need plenty of time to master his method.

This is not as bad as I first thought this was going to turn out. Although the heads looks very long, and the eyes don't seem to be positioned that well, so there is going to be room for improvement when I revisit these heads.

I was only able to tackle one head from Loomis' page about drawing 'pretty girls'. I'm still not sure, but I will perceiver with the final head on this page to see if anything has sunk in from doing this page.

Something a little bit different from the comic heads I was working on yesterday. And to be honest I seriously need to work on these heads.

This page focused on applying that ball and plane technique onto some comic heads. I might follow Loomis' advice on revisiting these exercises as I'm not happy with how these heads came out. They look at bit abstract for my liking.
