Day 18, and Days 20-25, Artober 2021

 

Yeah, I need to stop scanning all of these at once. Oh well, here goes... 

Today was inspired by a recent Saturday Night Live sketch of their science show parody, Science Room with Jason Sudeikis. It's worth watching as it is a prime example of things escalating out of control. 

I was another YouTuber tackling Super Mario Maker when I made this loose interpretation of Super Mario. It's a bit goofy, but that's part of its charm. 

I was watching Strictly when I shared that Teletubbies GIF of them on that special to one of my loyal friends on Facebook. Yeah... it's a bit demented, isn't it?  

During a Zoom call, I ended up drawing one of these characters for an upcoming Christmas show I'm in. At least I can look at this when I get around to writing a bio for this character. 

I wasn't feeling that inspired on this day, so just doodled these two characters. Don't think I will do much with them. 

I just stumbled on this YouTuber, Rick Beato, and I thought I try drawing this personality. Not bad. I might watch more of their videos soon. 

On this day, I was watching Venom. So I did my own interpretation of that comic book film character. 

Oh, before you ask, I did do something on Day 19, but that's on my smartphone. 

Days 8 to 14- Artober 2021 (Teddy Bear to Pink Panther)

 Yeah, I didn't plan to post all of these together, but I've had a lot going on during this week, so here we go...

Yeah, this is just a fun sketch of some teddy bear character. I might revisit this. 

On this day, I was watching a live stream of someone playing a ToeJam and Earl game, and one of the enemies was an opera singer. So here's my attempt at this character from memory.

Got inspired to draw this character from an old friend's batch of photographs taken when they were shopping for pumpkins. I quite like this character. 

Yeah, I didn't have that many art materials when I was doing this piece, hence using a highlighter rather than my trusty brush pens to draw out these characters. They make a good duo. 

Another day, and another live stream, this time they were playing that Nickeloden All-Star Brawl video game. So here's CatDog from memory. Not too bad. 

Yay! I had my brush pens back in reachable distance, so I drew this character based on a speaker I tried to watch via Zoom on Monday, which explains some of the details on this one. 

As being a fan of the Pink Panther character since I was a kid, I've never really drawn them before. This was very poignant with the passing of David H Patie doing the rounds on my Facebook feed that day. I like how this came out in the end. 

Day 5 and Day 6- Boat at Sea and Beetlejuice (from Memory!)

Yeah... two days in one. 

Day 5 is just some imaginary seascape.I think there is too much going on, but it'll do. 

Day 6 was inspired from one of my friend's drawings for this month of Beetlejuice. Yeah it's from memory so I couldn't remember how the lines went on his iconic suit. It was fun to try and do this from memory. 

 

Artober 2021- Day 4- Bomb Jack

 

Well it didn't take me long to make some fan art. Just watching a streamer on Twitch playing games on Antstream, including Bomb Jack. I have fond memories of playing this in an arcade many years ago. The pose feels a bit like SuperTed or Super Mario Bros 3, but I wanted to toy with some old stationary I found whilst tidying up today. 

Artober 2020- Day 31- Count Duckula

 Yeah, it's Halloween, and I couldn't resist drawing one of my childhood favourites for the final day of Artober. As you can tell, this is from memory so is probably off-model.

Artober 2020- Day 28- Dizzy Fanart

 Having just watch a documentary all about this British video game character recently, I just had to get some fanart out of my system. I have a vague childhood memory of playing one of those games on a cassette-based computer over at a friend's house, but I can only remember the music more than anythign else about playing that game, so I don't recall what game it was.

Artober 2020- Day 24- Cuphead's Barbershop

 

I wasn't feeling inspired, so I just drew this Barbershop quartet from Cuphead. It is from memory, so it's not on-model, and I vaguely remembered the lyrics from their song as a result of THAT sidequest.

Artober 2020- Days 9 to 11- Create Your Own Universe Excercises

 I was on holiday during those, but I managed to start work on Part Four of this Brothers McLeod book.

This included doing an imaginary map, but I was kind of inspired what I was doing on holiday at the time. The other two are characters I created back in Day 6 and Day 8 sitting on chairs, as this was important for character development into what kind of seating would they be used to. 

Artober 2020- Day 8- Create Your Own Universe Excercise

 

Just finally finished the third of this Brothers McLeod book, and the last excercise involving drawing their character from the Isle of Spagg in a different. I went down the Popeye/Steamboat Willie approach and made them quite an agitated character. I didn't really drew any friends for him because seems to be a bit of a grouch.

Inktober- Day 30- Moomin meets The Babadook

Inspired by Erin Hunting's latest post of the Australian screen monster, The Babadook, I couldn't resist getting vibes of Tove Jansson's work when viewing in my feed. So guess what I tried to do? This! It was fun trying to draw them all, even thou the Moomin do NOT have nostrils. I don't know what I was thinking. I also found a medium ink pen to achieve some different inking over the rough pencil sketch. I'm not sure if I the tonal colouring of The Babadook, but I've been itching to try drawing those Moomin characters for a while since watching that very good British dub of MoominValley.

Inktober- Day 27- Shaun the Sheep

The past few days have been a bit of a blur because of doing uncle duties, but that does mean watching plenty of contemporary children's programming, including Shaun the Sheep. So here's an off-model take on that titular character for today. 

Inktober- Day 26- Laundry Basket Character

Inspired by a recent behind the scenes video of an animator, Hombre_McSteez, bringing to life a laundry basket as an animated character, I thought I give that character a go. The perspective isn't good on the basket's interior, but I managed to get a reasonable likeness to that character.

Inktober- Day 23- Globox Doodle

Yeah, this was a little bit different for me to do, but over on Rayman Reanimated's Twitter page, they got The Globox Doodle Collab going. So I thought I give this a go, being inspired by this character's rain dance from one of his first appearances in the Rayman video game series.

They did say it was a doodle, so I went for a rough pen sketch before going over the in a thicker brush pen as I needed to erase the background to create a transparent PNG file for their use. Wish me luck!

Inktober- Day 20- Tico and Rigadon (Around the Word of Willy Fog)

I got inspired from Manue Illustrations' Inktober sketch of a couple from Around the World of Willy Fog, so I did ANOTHER couple from that show, Rigadon and Tico. I emulated what the hell was going on in that show's intro. I think I made Tico the stuff of nightmares with those staring eyes, but it was bloody fun trying to draw these two characters.   

Inktober- Day 18- Magic Towel

When your good creative friends, Sumita writes a fun episode to a pre-school series, there is only one thing to do; do fan art of it!
Magic Towel is a one-off character from Pablo, a recent pre-school series that has earned a well-recieved following for its application of tackling autism in all its many  aspects. This episodes looks into this mascot - who probably owns more to Mighty Mouse than the original aesthetics- that has an earworm of a jingle to their advert. Think Triple-Dent Gum from Inside Out, and you get a good idea without seeing the episode.  

Inktober- Day 14- Marvin the Parnoid Android

After one of my mates mentioned that the actor that played Marvin in the original Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galxy had passed away recently, I had to give drawing Marvin a go. I messed up the arms a bit, but I'm glad I got the detail on his torso well enough.
Below is just a rough sketch, with some ink marks to work out what nib to use on the final piece. 

Inktober 2019- Day 4- Finalised(?) Censored Logo and Dr Oetker Cakes

Day 4 into my Inktober and I think I managed to finalise this logo for the client as I think the client hasn't given me any further feedback at the time of writing this blog entry. So with that professional brief out of the way... I thought I do this?
Remember when Channel 4's Great British Bake Off used to be sponsored by Dr Oetker? Well, here is an off-model attempt to recreate one of my favourites. Yeah, I should've looked at the original before doing this, but at least it was a bit of fun from some of the professional work I've been up to recently. I've also done some drawn inking, having just discussed this with an illustrator at a meetup a few weeks ago. I left it with the original pencilling because I like it.

Ric Ocasek Fan Art- Ink and Pencil Sketch

I got inspired by Stephen Silver's recent post about drawing from the screen rather than from still photos to create this tribute fan art to The Cars' musician Ric Ocasek. I got inspiration from watching his presence in the official music video for Magic. I gave him shades, like from his live footage,  because I wasn't too confident with sketching some eyes for Ric. I think I'll leave it like this as I like the loose pencilling and inking on this. I will definitely need to get back into doing more drawing again.

Day 12 and Day 13 of Inktober: Professor Hastings

I have been doing Inktober this year, but if you bear with me, I will try and sort them out, and make relevant postings. I was inspired by Dave Alvarez's Muppetober contest over on Twitter (https://twitter.com/DAlvarezStudio/status/1050440806010683393) to give doing some fan art of an obscure Muppet. I decided to attempt Professor Hastings from Sesame Street. I tried a couple of attempts at depicting his character. Whilst my intial drawing (the middle drawing) had more detail, I felt I wasn't getting the proportions right on the character. So I made a digital coloured drawing of my second drawing at it resembles more of the character. I was also pleased with the tartan effect on his waistcoat.
