Inktober- Day 10- Trigger Word Sketches

I thought whilst it was Inktober, I'll try and sort out how to model my next trigger word, being the word 'front' meaning "the part or side that comes first or is the most important". My initial idea was involving having a wheel missing at the front of a cleaning machine, but I decided for a more simpler idea of me noticing a stain on the front of my t-shirt - something I know too well of! 

Inktober- Day 8- Self Portrait

I just wanted to experiment with my recent invested Copic marker in terms of tonal work. Whilst you don't get much tonal work with blocks of black ink, I was glad to experiment with this brush pen that I'm not well acquainted whilst doing this quick self-portrait done with a mirror. Having done a lot of expressions recently to get my professional character-based illustrations that extra dimension in terms of 'performance', it was something that was to happen sooner rather than later. 

Pieces Done Recently- January 2013 onwards

I thought I get around to sharing some of the other pieces I have worked on during this year. The above image was based on a exercise, in which I felt the object, but didn't see what the object was. My guess was correct, but I was able to illustrate the description of these cookie cutters in a conceptual way.

These images were done off-the-cuff back in January, based on a negative experience of packing for a popular toy company that have a local warehouse. I written a piece about the experience which uses the notion that I was 'orchestrated by red-tape'. So I guess it was natural to revisit this striking imagery of myself, as a puppet, with red tape as my strings. I loved how it came out.

 

I loved how this image came out during an exercise done this month. Think Akira Kurosawa (Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Rashamon) meets Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Dexter's Lab), as I created this samurai illustration.

Light and Dark Art Uploads- Paintings, Illustrations, and Wire Woman Studies

This is a batch of pieces done along the theme of light and dark. The paintings were based on scenes, and emotions, that I want to include inside my mask- and I won't be revealing my concepts behind this mask design just yet. The same can be said for the illustration of me on an exercise bike. The drawings all came from a still life drawing of this wire figure.

An Old Sketch Book... with Some New Drawn In Too!

I found this old sketch pad, the other day, and I decided to have a look in. Amongst all the notes- which date to probably my GCSE days from the French revision- there were a lot of doodles.

I do like, amongst all those cartoon heads, I was attempting to draw actual characters, like R2D2, or a villian from the PS1 game Rayman- I guess I was born to do some fan art, now and again.
So noticed that there were some pages left in the old book left. So, I did what came naturally to me.... use it up, of course!

So the top picture was really just me sploshing some paint about, as I was working on a watercolour illustration, which was based on the above 3 sketches of my face- I might get around to uploading that piece soon.

I even did some studies from the Loomis book, but I might make a proper, where this drawing came from, when I get around to doing some further scanning.
