Inktober 2016- Day 2- Perspective Sketch

I had a photography assignment this afternoon. So, whilst going through those images, I thought and try and work on my perspective by recreating the hall this event was taking place. It looks like I need to find a good way to getting the images from my sketchbook in a much better fashion. I also need to find more time to produce much better ink drawings, as I'm not happy with the quality of my inking here. But I'm glad I was able to add some detail to the drawing without pencilling it in, giving the sketch a bit more then I had previously pencilled in.

Your guesses are as good as mine into why I was taking photographs of random objects during my time at college. All I can guess was that there was some 'homework' which involved trying to draw objects. So perhaps I took these shots on my now-rather-rubbish camera I have at the time to use to make some art out of it. At least you can see the actual sketchbook, in which I probably did this in it on one of the pages.

These are some of the pieces, done digitally and traditionally, that I did whilst on the theme of 'home'.

These two are just two classic examples of how not to use a simple filter facility in Photoshop .

This is only page I have scanned from my submitted sketchbook for assessment. It just show some photocopied images with some colour slapped on with some paint.

So from trying to make art out of photocopies, here is an actual painting, based on studying the works of Tracey Emin. So I really wasn't making that much original art during my time at college.

An Old Sketch Book... with Some New Drawn In Too!

I found this old sketch pad, the other day, and I decided to have a look in. Amongst all the notes- which date to probably my GCSE days from the French revision- there were a lot of doodles.

I do like, amongst all those cartoon heads, I was attempting to draw actual characters, like R2D2, or a villian from the PS1 game Rayman- I guess I was born to do some fan art, now and again.
So noticed that there were some pages left in the old book left. So, I did what came naturally to me.... use it up, of course!

So the top picture was really just me sploshing some paint about, as I was working on a watercolour illustration, which was based on the above 3 sketches of my face- I might get around to uploading that piece soon.

I even did some studies from the Loomis book, but I might make a proper, where this drawing came from, when I get around to doing some further scanning.

What Do You Think?- Refined 'Doodle' on Carboard

I don't normally draw on cardboard, but I ended up doodling on the front cover of my current A5 sketchbook- which I think is spelling out the obvious- and have decided to refine the lines to make this cartoon. It's okay, especially as this is the first time in drawing something of the top of my head for a few months. I should try and show you what I have been drawing inside pretty soon.

Post a Drawing Every Day- Day 32- Further Study into Loomis' Another Line to the Ball

I didn't have much time to draw today, so I only just managed to do this quick study of another head in Loomis' chapter, using the same theory from yesterday. These drawings are okay, although I didn't really focus into the detail of the finalised head. So I might revisit this head to make more of a better effort.

I have been mostly working on an art jam to depict this description: "A Volcanic Mining Facility Run by a Race of Salamander People"

Initial Sketches

 So after some research, I had an idea of what I wanted to do, so I sketched these ideas out.

After doing these pencil sketches, I had an idea of what to do for the final piece.

I decided to apply some block colouring, and also extract some pencil sketches to get some definition- this is kind of similar to what I was trying to do for an earlier piece, only without inking anything this time around. As I was also trying to extract certain drawings from certain sketches, I made myself into a conundrum about trying to achieve this for most characters, and objects, used in the piece. I also haven't had time to toy with texturing, or lighting, as I want to place down all the important elements in place. I should have some time tomorrow to do a more polished piece.

Post Drawing Every Day- Day 27- Studies from Loomis' Fun with a Penil... Again!

I really wanted to finish doing those 'blooks' on that one page. So here they are... tackled with varying degrees of success.

With them out of the way, I can tackled on what the next page had to offer... titled 'THE BEST WAY TO GO ABOUT IT'... oh bother!

So instead of tackling the previous 'blooks' in the way I did, I should have followed this approach. At least this page just shows how hard, or easy, it can be to nail down on Loomis' heads. There are two other heads on that page- so guess what I might be tackling the next time I go 'back to school' with that Loomis book?

Post Drawing Every Day- Day 26- Life Drawings (Figure,Still, and Landscape)

I have been doing some life drawing; so pieces that feature figure, still, and landscape drawing, for those pigeon holing art critics- they're all life drawings as they were done in real life, okay?

This was the most detailed drawing I did today, whilst waiting for my bus. The figure closest to the bin kept moving, so you can see a faint position drawn of that figure sitting.

And here's what came into that bus stop- a bus! Can't you tell? I guess not, as that bus wasn't there for long.

Post a Drawing Every Day- Day 25- More 'Blook' Studies from Loomis' Book

It's still the same book I am trying to learn from the past few days, but this time I was focusing on some of these 'Blooks'- these were those cartoon head studies that I started on yesterday.

These I wasn't sure what the hell was I trying to study on, as they seem more animal then human to me. Probably has something to do with those elongated noses, or mouths, or whatever they are meant to be on their face.

Despite trying that guy with the moustache (Loomis does like to replace the mouths with these things!) three times, I feel that these were successful to look at. But that might be down to Loomis' appealing character design for that 'Blook'.

The head studies on the right seemed successful to understand what was going, as the construction used a rectangle, coming out the ball shape for the head, to form the head structure. It also felt familiar to do that, as I was taught by a graphic artist, at university, to keep the mouth shape separate from the rest of the head. But this was certainly not drawing deja vu, as I was applying what studying from that Loomis book, rather then from that actual professional tutor.

I was doing the same trip, from a few days back, so this meant I was doing some life drawings- technically figure drawings... before I get shtick from life drawing purists over my last attempts!

Today was doing some work towards this art jam.

I might have deviated from what a goblin looks like... but a big helpful one stuck at a back of a counter sounds about right.

I don't want to bang on about the process behind this too much, but I used a spare page in my sketch book to work out a few problems I encountered whilst doing this. These include sketches into what the girl's shoes should looked like, and how her fingers were going to look like from the back in that pose.

Post a Drawing Every Day- Day 17- Life Drawings at Oxford Rail Station

Did several life drawings today, whilst waiting for my train at Oxford- I needed to sort out some visas for a holiday to China in a few weeks time in Farringdon.
The first one wasnt successful, probably because I don't have much time to draw a stationery train at a station- if I did, that would probably be a bit of problem.The second drawing was my most successful, being able to focus on something like a bin, to a rendered quality I achieved on a more detailed piece I did a few days back.I had another train stop at the station, only I had a different car to quickly; so I sketched out the word 'David' on the engine of that train. I went along with this text theme whilst drawing some signs for a good few minutes, before I caught my train.
I did take some photographs whilst I was in Farringdon... but I'll save that for another post.

Post a Drawing Every Day- Day 11-Story Sketches for Robin Hood Tax short

Story Sketches

Today's drawing comes in the form of some quick story sketches for my film for the Robin Hood Tax competition. I wanted to address some excerpts from the final piece of dialogue recorded, which summed up my views about this scheme.
So I really wanted to work out how to compose the shot of a distressed child in the developing world, as it might be the most dramatic shot in the film, as I want the audience to be convinced that the Tax scheme is beneficial to others that need the money to live a better life, over then the money being still in the hands of the bankers.
I will probably go off and do some research to work on many factors, like an appropriate location for the child character, or how to depict the bankers as evil, for example.
