Final Batch of "The Women Folk" Studies, and Life Drawings

I'm quite please with how the heads came out, showing an understanding of how the heads were constructed, as well as how they were drawn.
The life drawings were also successful, as they got me to loosen up when I was trying to draw this array of objects. Although, I prefer the bottom image, in terms of its composition, but the other drawing shows more effort towards overlapping, and spacial awareness of the objects.

Loomis Study- The Women Folks

Now I'm onto a page featuring some stock women characters. So I'll be doing a lot more heads from this book- joy.

Loomis Study- Final Batch of Faces from " A Method of Checking"

I have now finished that page. The 'method of checking' was helpful in working out the proportions for the eyes, nose, and mouth area, but that was all I found helpful from that method.

Loomis Study- Another "Method of Checking"

I'm still can't master the main head on that page, but at I was able to render off an adequate study of one of the other heads on the page.

Loomis Study- "A Method of Checking"

Based from the previous studies, Loomis gives a method for checking your proportions with a female head- and it looks like I'm going to need plenty of time to master his method.

Loomis Study- Final Pretty Girl Study

This is not as bad as I first thought this was going to turn out. Although the heads looks very long, and the eyes don't seem to be positioned that well, so there is going to be room for improvement when I revisit these heads.

Tuesday 17 May 2011

Loomis Study- More Pretty Girl Studies

I was only able to tackle one head from Loomis' page about drawing 'pretty girls'. I'm still not sure, but I will perceiver with the final head on this page to see if anything has sunk in from doing this page.

Loomis Study- The Pretty Girl Studies

Something a little bit different from the comic heads I was working on yesterday. And to be honest I seriously need to work on these heads.

Loomis Study- Comic Heads using the Ball and Plane Technique

This page focused on applying that ball and plane technique onto some comic heads. I might follow Loomis' advice on revisiting these exercises as I'm not happy with how these heads came out. They look at bit abstract for my liking.

Loomis Study- The Last of Face Studies... on that Page

These were some of the profile heads on that page, in which Loomis encourages you to test what head type these heads are.
It was an interesting exercise in which I which I was able to use an array of mark-making techniques to learn from them. But now I head onto the next page of the book. I have also realised that I'm about a third of the way through the book. So I'm hoping for some techniques to draw other part of the body, like the hands, rather then more heads.

Loomis Study- Several More Face Studies

These are the faces that I have been doing for the past few days. I even received some feedback from an actual person about the top image, in which they made their preference for the head on the left.

Loomis Study- More Face Studies

I'm quite glad how these heads come out, even thou they don't seem inconsistent in places, like the eyes or ears.

Loomis Study- Faces Based on the Previous Studies

I'm now onto the next page, and this time Loomis has done faces based those face structures I have learnt from the previous page. For some reason, I got stuck into the details of the actual drawings, as well as the structure. It's certainly showing some kind of improvement on drawing in Loomis' mannerism. I just hope this effort gets applied to the next time I do my own character drawings.

Monday 9 May 2011

Loomis Study- Several Face Studies

From Left to Right: Mongoloid; Widedome

From Left to Right: Pinhead; Negroid

From Left to Right: Extendback; Highdome
I was productive today by finishing off that page of heads from that Loomis book.

Sunday 8 May 2011

Life Drawing, and Some Profile Studies

From Left to Right: Lowback; Flatback
I haven't been that productive with my drawing during the past couple of days. My life drawing seemed rushed, and I felt that I was copying rather then learning from the Loomis book

Friday 6 May 2011

Loomis Study- Several Face Profile Studies

From Left to Right: Bulgybrow; Highback

From Left to Right: Dishface; Weakface
I think I did well on these studies from that Loomis book. But my head do look a bit squashed, but I am able to get similar marks to make the faces as in the book, which is some kind of improvement.

Thursday 5 May 2011

Loomis Study- Studies on Lowbrow and Squarehead Faces

These are some further studies on some faces. You're meant to use the ball and plane technique, but I found it easier to learn their construction in your own way to make sense of the relevant proportions.

Tuesday 3 May 2011

Loomis Study- Several Face Studies

Left to right: Wide Face; Pointed Face

Left to right: Flaring Jaw; Wide Cheekbones
I was a bit more productive when studying these face types today. Although I will revist the Wide Cheekbones face to make sure that that sinks in.
