Inktober- Day 31- More Book Cover Concepts

We've finally made it! This maybe the last day of Inktober, but that doesn't mean that I will slowing down anytime soon. I devised some covers based on the main character of this comic I have been working for this client. It is just another angle for me to play with before I develop my mood board to present to the client.

Inktober- Day 30- Further Cover Concepts

I am a man of my word! I looked back at the research my client had sent, so I took my initial designs into another direction. Might go for the right one as it looks dynamic - without the censored text or face!

Inktober- Day 29- More Book Cover Sketches

Following on from yesterday's brief, I have now been given the full title from the client, so I have to take into account a lot more text then my previous attempts had used. I have a simple concept I want to play with, so I may or may not explore this further. Although I might have to revist some of the client's inspiration to create a few more ideas.

Inktober- Day 28- Book Cover Sketches

I'm back on that project for this client again, this time trying to work out what the cover should be, hence the censored titles and author.

Day 27- Inktober- Whistling Man Revisited

I decided to revisit yesterday's Whistling Man concept. I added some more into the background. It certainly got an influence of Milton Knight and Robert Crumb about it. I might revisit even more at some point.

Wednesday 26 October 2016

Inktober- Day 26- Whisting Man Cartoon

I've kind of plateaued today, so I'm not up to much as a result. So I drew this out of my imagination, and it certainly shows.

Inktober- Day 25- Food Illustrations

Trying to win a new assignment on my freelancing platform. So I had to draw three dishes (Chicken Tikka; Garlic Naan; King Prawn Bhuna) to woo this client over. Wish me luck!

Inktober- Day 24- Life Drawing

Did some life drawing on the bus today. Whilst the hair wasn't as rugged as it was in real life, and it was unfinished because they left for their stop, I quite like the minimalist marks on the seating.

Inktober- Day 23- Peeling Potato Study and Cartoon

Similar to how I did some research for my recent illustration work, I wanted to do some research for this potato film idea. So I sketched from an image to get an idea on how the hands work when doing this. Then I drew a quick cartoon just to get an idea on how it would look.

Saturday 22 October 2016

Inktober- Day 22- Life Drawing (Woman on Bus with Trolley)

I tried to do some life drawing on the bus, but the trip was so wobbly, that I wasn't pleased with it whilst doing this. It's not too bad, although I would've liked some more definition with the trolley and her hands. There's always another day.

Friday 21 October 2016

Inktober- Day 21- Still Life from Garden

I decided to do something different today, so I took inspiration from the family garden. I was quite pleased at how this worked as a composition, although I might have gone overboard with some of the wispy mark-making for all of that plantlife.

Thursday 20 October 2016

Inktober- Day 20- Potato Designs

Just wanted to play around with this potato character a bit more before developing some of the further scenes for this germ of a film. I quite like how this character looks like, so I might work on some of the other scenes featuring potatoes that I want to include next time.

Inktober- Day 19- Realistic and Cartoon Potato

I though I needed to do some research to develop my potato characters a bit. So I did a realistic study of one, via an image search, followed a cartoon potato with a face on it. I like how the 'tuber' can be made into a nose. I wanted to use a brush pen to draw it to achieve that thick-line 'manga' look that can be easy on the eye, and easy to animate - in theory! I might need to work whether I want to apply simple shading into my film or not; as long I don't try to colour it is like that with a brush pen it could give them some dimension.

Tuesday 18 October 2016

Inktober- Day 18- Life Drawing

I might be a bit rusty after all of that illustrative work lately, but this drawing of man in a hat and glasses was a pretty reasonable effort.

Monday 17 October 2016

Inktober- Day 17- Potatoes Being Boiled Alive

You know when you have an idea that you want to put down as an image for quite a while, well this demented idea started off as a germ of a film idea I've had since attending last month's Encounters festival.
Whilst I now regret using the brush pen as part of the overall hierarchy when inking the pan, it is a pretty solid idea I want to use in this film.

Sunday 16 October 2016

Inktober- Day 16- Quick Sketch

I had to ammend a piece for my client - again! - so I did this quick sketch to work out where things were going.

Saturday 15 October 2016

Inktober- Day 15- Character Study and Drawing

I had to add an additional character to my piece. So I managed to do a quick study from an image I did some research for the piece, then managed to quickly draw a cartoon take on that study in the pose that I needed the character to be in for the final piece - hence the censored head on the right.

Friday 14 October 2016

Inktober- Day 14- Concept Sketch/Study

A continuation from yesterday's study for that professional project I'm working. Not as polished as my previous study, but it has given me an idea of what to implement in my final piece, and that I need to work on my overlapping and proportions when I do life drawing.

Thursday 13 October 2016

Inktober- Day 13- Background Sketch

After some success with that illustration from yesterday, I wanted to try and add some further detail into the background to develop its mise-en-scene a bit more. So after doing some more research, I sketched out a couple of props that could be used to develop its location a bit more.

Wednesday 12 October 2016

Inktober- Day 12- Finalised Illustration

Despite the odd mistake that can be rectified later on during the process, I'm quite pleased at how the final piece came out.

Tuesday 11 October 2016

Inktober- Day 11- Illustration Concept

Remember my previous attempt at drawing this illustration? Censoring aside, I think it is definitely a stronger concept, and I will use this to create my large scale finalised piece for the client.

Monday 10 October 2016

Inktober- Day 10- Sketches for Page Layout

Like the previous post, I had to censor a good portion of it, but I can show the illustrations as this is an excercise to get me some potential graphic design work.

Sunday 9 October 2016

Inktober- Day 9- Illustration Brief Sketch

I had to revisit a professional brief for a long term project. Because this is a live project, I have decided to censor their faces, and dialogue to avoid spoiling the finalised piece for the client.
I needed to revisit the initial sketch that the client produced. I need to produced another sketch using the correct dimensions before I start drawing it on a large scale.

Saturday 8 October 2016

Inktober- Day 8- Man on Bus

I think that this was rather successful. I was able to draw the male figure convincingly, and used the brush pen to acheive some minimalist effects when it came to the background of the bus.

Friday 7 October 2016

Inktober- Day 7- Man Reading Paper on Bus

Yes... I know he's wearing glasses, although they were his reading glasses to read the paper. Used the dried up pen. Didn't take too long on it as he decided to stop reading the paper - sigh.

Thursday 6 October 2016

Inktober- Day 6- Programme Note Doodles

Not much to say about these doodles, although there are some that influences of an old animated film I watched as a child, Tubby the Tuba, in there. Also, some feeble attempt at Cup Boy for some reason.

Wednesday 5 October 2016

Inktober- Day 5- Man with Smartphone on Bus

I guess this was rather ambitious with all the overlapping involving all of those bus seats, and didn't help with drawing his hands in the middle of those two pages. Overall, it's not a bad effort, but I should try and find a subject that isn't wearing glasses.

Tuesday 4 October 2016

Inktober Day 4- Doodles During Meeting

Do doodles counts as part of Inktober? I say so, so here goes. Just a miscellany of doodles I did during a meeting. I censored out some of the sensitive information from my copy of the agenda for the sake of privacy.
I finally started developing some character ideas I wanted to sketch out for a film I want to develop- that's why you so many egg-shaped heads with simple facial features.
I'll be back on the buses, so tomorrow maybe another chance to try some life drawing once again.

Monday 3 October 2016

Inktober- Day 3- Man on Bus

Quite pleased with this one, even thou my brush pen was drying up, it achieve a nice effect when doing this life drawing.

Sunday 2 October 2016

Inktober 2016- Day 2- Perspective Sketch

I had a photography assignment this afternoon. So, whilst going through those images, I thought and try and work on my perspective by recreating the hall this event was taking place. It looks like I need to find a good way to getting the images from my sketchbook in a much better fashion. I also need to find more time to produce much better ink drawings, as I'm not happy with the quality of my inking here. But I'm glad I was able to add some detail to the drawing without pencilling it in, giving the sketch a bit more then I had previously pencilled in.

Inktober 2016 -Day 1- Life Drawing on Bus

Well I finally decided to do this Inktober thing this year. So here is my first at doing some life drawing in a while. It is meant to be a figure sitting on the bus, but I think I put more effort in drawing the details of the bus on the actual. I did drew it in a minute with a ballpoint pen, but I could have put in just a bit more time in drawing the subject for a little bit longer. Luckily there is another day to improve on this!
