Inktober- Day 21 - Life Drawing

I drew this on the way to my first open mic night performance in Oxford. I'm quite pleased with the detail I got on the right figure here.

Wow! I had a productive, and I'm liking what the marks are making that I did doing some life drawings today. The comic is for a potential paid assignment, hence the censored faces.

I wanted to do some loose gestures after all that professional illustrative work recently. So doing this kind of imaginative gesture drawing was fun. I need to try more of this.

I managed to have time to make another trigger word after managing to complete my model of Off recently. This one is about the word 'Onto', meaning to "to a position on". So as I tend to pay for a drink with my friends, I modelled one of my friends getting a drink from me at a cafe. So, the action of putting those drinks on the table at this cafe was a related example for me to illustrate the word 'onto'.

I took a shot of the model with the arrows in the shot to illustrate the drinks literally going onto the table. I managed to zoom in a bit to avoid those arrows and I liked the outcome of it. I was very pleased with the outcome of the friend model in conversation after we got our drinks, hence the portrait shot of them. I managed to zoom out to get some context of that cafe scene too.

It has been a while since I've done a trigger word, based on the Davis Dyselxia Association technique. The word is 'Off', meaning "not on; away or down from". So I went for myself taking off my fleece because I felt hot, hence the big arrow pointing to where the coat has gone on the far right of the full shot of the model.
I took several other shots too to capture the figures in much detail. My favourite being the with the two figures, featuring myself in the fleece, with the thought bubble's figure in the background.

Yes, I am still doing trigger words, and here is the latest web-friendly model for you to check out. The word was 'let', when meant to allow. So I used it in the context that I let my friend go back home with their parent. Based on a recent event, I think I manage to create this model rather quickly. The fact that I modelled three of these characters three times was something I did not expect to do. However, I felt the body language in the first scene would not have been clear without the speech bubble emphasising what has happened in the final scene (see close-up of those figures as I felt I did not arrange the figures well for the shot of the overall composition.) 

Trigger Word- After- 31st August 2014

It has been nearly one and half years since I last found some time to do a trigger word; although I had this on fruition for a few months, but never had the time to become orientated from it until now.
So this models the preposition 'after', meaning later than. So the example I used was I watched the news on TV after I put the rubbish out. I'm pleased that I was able to depict the newsreaders of my local news presenters- British local news fans may want a guess at my region and those personalities. I was also able to depict our food waste bin, and trying to get the hand gestures right of what my hand is doing when placing the food waste into that bin.
I had problems trying to take shots of the of the figures, but I'm pleased with my third attempt of my figure watching TV, my first attempt at the figure putting rubbish into a bin with his face in shot, and my last attempt at depicting the entire situation with my figure putting waste into the bin.
I'm quite pleased with the setup, although I may want to lower my base down to avoid those corners sticking out of my fabric layer like that. I'm glad I found time to do this, and I want to find time again to do another one, but my schedule is a bit thrown off with potential work commitments at the moment; so I can't gurantee new trigger word models anytime soon.

Loomis and Action Man Figure studies

After taking some advice from some creative friends over on Facebook, I worked out what I want from these rough studies. I'm not trying to make fully rendered drawings or illustrations out of these pieces. I am just trying to work how a human figure is constructed, using the methods instructed in the Andrew Loomis book.

I'm starting to find the photographs having more volume and depth to the figure then my actual pencilled studies of them... oh well...

Same drill as before from last week's epic entry, but this time the drawings and photographs were done during last week.

Loomis' Fun with A Pencil Studies- Doohinkus Manikin and Action Figure Studies

Just to explain why there are photographs, drawings that look like, and do not look like, the figures in these photographs, I am currently at the chapter in the book, which encourages me to learn from a movable figure. Hence, why there are shots of an Action Man figure in those positions, and a live drawing of that figure, to understand this position the other manikin- the one with the moustache and markings on their torso and hips- has been placed. All of these drawing were done between December 2011,up to the present day, being January 2012, and I was encourage to start posting again on a Facebook group that encourages you to draw something everyday. So this post will keep me up to date with that for now.
